Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark

I wasn't aware of these books as a kid but caught up with them a few years ago completely unaware of how many people in the USA were freaked out by them.

Now it looks like there is a documentary in the works!

The art from these books was fucking amazing:

The stories were okay. Aimed at kids but still darker then the shit usually available to kids at the time. From what I understand a movie has been in development based on the books.

I too had never heard of them until about 2 years ago. Traded someone some old VHS for all three books. The newest printing changed all the old creepy artwork.

I wonder why they'd do that? Like Alex says, it's the art that really makes these interesting.

Art was changed because of backlash I'd imagine. The books were banned from quite a few libraries because of the art.

See, not having grown up with them or having even heard about them until recently I didn't know that.

I remember seeing one or two of the books in Grade School. And shortly after reading them they mysteriously vanished. Same thing happened with another children's book that had graphic imagery Scary Facts to Blow Your Mind.

Guillermo Del Toro is developing a film based on the book:

    Hope this actually happens.

Also hopeful that this actually happens. As we all know, not everything his name gets attached to actually works out.

    I read this one.... http://www.amazon.com/Ghosts-Dover-C.../dp/0486484696

Ghosts, by Seymour Simon. Not of the same volumes, but had the same illustrator. Scared the SHIT out of me as a kid.
