    NED BEATTY, R.I.P.

One of the truly great character actors of his generation, NED BEATTY, has passed at 83.

DELIVERENCE, NETWORK, SUPERMAN THE MOVIE, NASHVILLE, SILVER STREAK, THE BIG EASY, RUDY, CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR, SHOOTER and so many others. He always brought something special to the table.

I'm going to move this to general.

And yes, RIP, I always enjoyed him any time he showed up in something.

Been a fan of his since I saw Superman when I was five (okay I didn't have a clue what his name was at that age). Then as I grew up I found him popping up in better movies and eventually squealing like a pig! Great character actor, effortlessly watchable and likeable. His cameo may be the only good thing in Exorcist II.
I'm bitter, I'm twisted, James Joyce is fucking my sister.

I just watched him in SUPERMAN II yesterday. Sad coincidence and to think the last scene I saw him in he was waving goodbye to Mr. Lu-thor and Ms. Teschmacher.

He's really entertaining in ROLLING VENGEANCE.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

Farewell to an absolute legend. I'm particularly fond of his role as an apoplectic CIA agent chasing Walter Matthau in Hopscotch (1980); if you're a fan of Beatty and haven't seen that one it's highly recommended in a light spy comedy vein. Also, here's his speech from Network put to excellent sampling use in Tsuzing's "1976":
