Okay I read the first issue, it's pretty good. Enough so I'll be getting the next few at least. Ennis keeps the character pretty traditional, this is a grim avenger who kills when needed. The Hahaha laugh gets thrown out but in an unexpected situation.

Caught up with the 1st issue yesterday. I like the story so far, not sure I'm in love with the art. It's not bad, but the spoiled comic nerd inside of me wanted something more Kaluta-ish. And yeah, that hahaha bit at the end was pretty clever. Ennis does seem to have a good feel for writing Cranston's dialogue. I'm curious to see where he goes with this.

Yeah, I'm not goo-goo about the art myself. That's a fairly common gripe I have with Dynamite - covers are usually swell but the interior art is sometimes not so much. I've got the 2nd issue and it was actually even better story-wise I thought.

You should give The Spider a try, it's a nice mix of pulp and a modern setting. The art is better than The Shadow and the character is far more bloodthirsty - as he was in his original appearances.

I didn't even see the 2nd issue out when I was at the store the other day or I'd have grabbed it.

I saw the ad in the 1st issue of The Shadow for The Spider and wondered if it was worth while.

I think the second issue of The Shadow came out 2 weeks ago or so.

Thanks, I'll definitely look for it next time I'm in the store.

I suck at buying this series on time.

Well Garth Ennis has already left The Shadow. Got the new issue with new scribe Victor Gischler today, I'll give him a couple issues but I am inclined to drop this. Hate to say it but even Ennis' brief run left me underwhelmed. Just never really connected with the story. I would only recommend the inevitable trade as a library loan.

Yeah, after getting the 2nd issue my enthusiasm waned. Made me remember the Kyle Baker run for DC rather fondly and go back and dig some of those out though.
