So on Sat. I went on a 9 mile hike up the coast of the Rockaway Peninsula. Hadn't been out this way since before Hurricane Sandy hit it hard two years ago. Started at Jacob Riss Park and then went up to Ft. Tilden, a fort used to defend NYC during WWI and WWII and then a Nike Missile base during the Cold War. At any rate, Sandy moved a lot of water in and with the water came the sand.

This is a pretty rad place and a bit of a magnet for graffiti artists because it's way, way, way out of the way and most of the buildings are secluded and/or surrounded in brush.
